Hawkes Remotes Launched; Will Deploy New Technologies to Enable Cost Effective Ocean Access

April 15, 2010, Pt. Richmond, CA -- Hawkes Ocean Technologies announced today that it is launching a company, Hawkes Remotes Inc., to commercialize a new class of advanced, undersea remotely operated and robotic vehicles for scientific research, industrial applications and deep sea exploration.

Building on the 30 -year history of world- renowned ocean engineer and Company Founder, Graham Hawkes, Hawkes Remotes will fundamentally alter the economics of deep ocean access by offering scalable, modular, solutions that will significantly reduce total cost of ownership/operating costs while outperforming existing technologies.

The Company is introducing a fully developed, standardized suite of technologies and components forming a “Common Vehicle Platform” (CVP) that can access all depths from the surface to full ocean depth (36,000 feet), while addressing the limitations of current ROV (Remotely Operated Vehicle) and AUV (Autonomous Underwater Vehicle) products.

The CVP will allow rapid configuration of vehicle systems to meet specific application requirements. These vehicles systems will utilize proprietary and patented technologies to provide advanced, unmanned ocean access to a wider range of users at dramatically lowered costs.

Company Founder and Chief Technology Officer, Graham Hawkes, stated, “With 94% of life on Earth aquatic and the globe dominated by ocean space that has barely been touched, we expect to see exceptional long term growth in the demand for efficient, deep ocean access. Our goal is to significantly expand the customer base for ocean access technologies by providing cost?effective, scalable solutions that improve functionality and ease of use.”

“We believe that the market for ocean access solutions, which has grown steadily for many years, has reached a tipping point and is poised for disruption,” said Jonathan Epstein, Hawkes Remotes’ Chief Executive Officer. “But, as exciting as the prospects are in existing applications, we’re equally excited about the new opportunities that our lower?cost, modular systems will enable for industry, science and government.

We believe our initial offerings will achieve an almost 50% reduction in total system costs and we will continue to drive this down further to enable new scientific and commercial applications.“

Hawkes Ocean Technologies (HOT) is a private “skunk works” which innovates disruptive technologies for deep ocean exploration. HOT is best known for its DeepFlight series of winged submersibles.

Hawkes Remotes, based in the San Francisco Bay area, was spun out of Hawkes Ocean Technologies to commercialize a new generation of robotic undersea vehicles (www.hawkesremotes.com).
